What is the workflow of European Truck Clutch?

Publish Time: 2023-09-13     Origin: Site

The European Truck Clutch is located in the flywheel housing between the engine and the gearbox. The clutch assembly is screwed to the rear plane of the flywheel and the output shaft of the clutch is the input shaft of the gearbox.

Is the European Truck Clutch adjustable?

Modern cars tend to use slave cylinders and hydraulic clutches. These are automatically adjusted as the clutch wears out, so when the European Truck Clutch starts to slip, there is nothing you can do but replace it.

Older models are equipped with a clutch lever and cable. This allows for periodic adjustments. In fact, it requires it to avoid slipping points. So you can see why this technology has been replaced by self-adjusting clutches.

What about repairs? Why does a new clutch cost so much? This is mainly because of where the clutch is located, i.e. in the bell housing - the space between the engine and the gearbox. So to replace the clutch, you have to separate the two, which is quite a job.

So that can mean having to raise or lower the engine depending on the car to make enough room to separate the transmission from the engine. This takes a lot of time.

If you drive a rear-wheel drive car, you'll be glad to hear that your mechanic's job is easier. It still takes a lot of time, but since the engine and transmission run longitudinally, it's just a matter of jacking the car up, removing the driveshaft, loosening the transmission bolts, pulling out the old clutch, putting in the new clutch and then tightening it all back together. Simple. Still a good day's work, but simple.

If your car is front wheel drive, chances are (unless you drive an old Audi A4) the engine is transverse, which means it will travel through the car instead of along it.

This means that everything is crammed into a much smaller space, so it's much harder to work on. This can take twice as long as changing the clutch in a rear wheel drive car.

What is the workflow of European Truck Clutch?

Before we get started, let's take a look at how European Truck Clutch works.

How a clutch works

Your clutch takes power from your engine and sends it to your transmission, which in turn sends it to your wheels. This is a stressful job, especially when you consider that even at idle, your engine and the flywheel (the part of the clutch that grips) are spinning at 1,000 rpm.

Yet even so, you lift your foot off the clutch pedal, and as you do so, the clutch plate rolls up its sleeve and grabs the spinning flywheel. As you drive happily, it will do so at a variety of speeds.
